Ipamorelin: Key Information for Researchers

What Is Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is a short peptide that binds to ghrelin and growth hormone secretagogue receptors. Among all known growth hormone secretagogues, ipamorelin stands out for its exceptional selectivity—it targets its intended receptor with minimal off-target effects. Laboratory research shows that ipamorelin affects hormone release including ACTH, prolactin, FSH, LH, TSH, and cortisol. This high specificity makes ipamorelin valuable for research into both therapeutic applications and ghrelin receptor mechanisms.

Reducing Steroid Side Effects

Corticosteroids effectively reduce inflammation but cause serious side effects that limit their use. Research demonstrates that ipamorelin can reduce many of these harmful effects, potentially allowing better therapeutic outcomes.

Long-term steroid use causes bone loss and fracture risk. Current treatments have limitations. Post-operative ileus—intestinal paralysis after surgery—causes pain and delays recovery. Clinical studies tested ipamorelin for this condition. Cancer Detection Through PET Imaging

Ipamorelin binds very strongly to ghrelin receptors, which are involved in cancer growth. This property enables ipamorelin to function as a diagnostic tracer for PET scans. Animal Study Findings on Intestinal Function

When rats with post-operative ileus received ipamorelin, measurable improvements occurred. Stomach food content dropped to levels similar to healthy animals.
